30th April 2008- 2 Bank Holidays, 1 Tight Budget

I’ve not spent anything since weekend so I’ve finished £17.83 over budget for April. I’m thinking about what to set my budget to for May, considering I have two Bank Holiday weekends in there. Also I’ve not bought any clothes for months so I think I’m going to have to be buy at least one new item this next month.

Those things considered I’ve decided on £235, I think its better to set a realistic figure and try to stick to it, rather than running out a week before the end of the month and then going crazy seeing as I’ve already gone over.  Let’s see how it goes.

28th Apr 08 – A Bad Weekend for the Budget

Quite a few unplanned purchases this weekend making me go over budget.

FRIDAY

Hot Chip ticket for November: £18.75 (unplanned cost but something was telling me to do it, do it, do it now….)

Impromptu after work drinks: £15 (give or take, I can’t remember that clearly but it was about that)

Cheeseburger: £1.29 (required due to the above)

SATURDAY

A2 piece of handmade paper: £1.50

A2 piece of thick board: £1.75 (discontinued colour so was reduced to half price)

Piz Buin Gradual Self Tan: £5.99 (feeling rather pasty as my holiday glow rapidly dissappears)

SUNDAY

3 songs from I-Tunes: £2.37 (Cajun Dance Party- The Race, Guillemots- Get Over It & Black Kids- I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance)

Total Weekend Spend: £46.65

Over spent: £17.83. I’m trying to tell myself that £18.75 on a ticket for November shouldn’t really be included in the budget in which case I would have been slightly under.

25th Apr 08 – The Pen is Mightier than the Willpower

I finally cracked and bought the pens that I wanted yesterday, I did find them for £7.49 rather than the £10.99 pack; the pens are exactly the same, just not in the plastic stand. So I was rather pleased until I came to use them last night on the card for which they were intended, only to find that they bleed at the edges. Very disappointing but I’m sure I’ll get my use from them anyway on a different type of card. I’ve worked out that I’ll use 14 of the 20 regularly (greys browns and yellow are never any good for lettering) so that’s £0.54 each. If I use each of them 50 times that’s just 1p per use. I think I will probably use them more than 50 times too, they’re a bargain if you think about it.

Budget Remaining: £28.82

23rd April 08 – Do a Good Deed, Save Some Money

Well I managed to keep temptation at bay with the pens yesterday. I took the opportunity to give somebody a lift home, knowing that if they were with me, I couldn’t stop off at the pen shop on the way home and part with my cash. Therefore, saving on pens=£10.99 & their saving on the tram=£2.00, everyone’s a winner. Except that I still really want them. (Think Pauline from League of Gentlemen, its true, pens are your friends) And for those of you who want to know exactly which pens are causing so much torment:

Beautiful aren’t they?

Budget Remaining: £36.31

22nd Apr 08 – Improved Progress

All going well so far this week with no purchases made, I’m trying to make amends for the weekend frivolities. However, I’ve seen some coloured fineliner pens that I want for £10.99. Doesn’t sound overly tempting to most people but to me they’re very exciting.

17th Apr 08 – Back on Track

Well after my disasterous hungover purchases I’ve had a really good week and not spent anything, which is a good job really because I forgot to factor in a £40 haircut that I’m going to on Saturday into my budget.  If I manage to keep to the £200 including that I’ll be seriously pleased.

Budget remaining: £135

14th Apr 08 – Hangovers = Poor Spending Decisions

Friday night was a bonus in that I was disproportionately drunk for the amount of money I spent. Bought one round of drinks for £15.80 all night (the great thing about being the host and having people stay at your house is that they bring loads of drink round first).

However, on saturday I made 2 fatal hungover decisions-

1) Pay £12 for a overpriced posh burger when I clearly was not in the best state to eat it.

2) Pay £4.20 to park near the place where I bought the burger when I actually only live 10 minutes walk away. It just didn’t even occur to me to walk!

Saturday’s Stupid Spending: £16.20. Gutted.

Budget Remaining: £135

11th Apr 08 – The Best Laid Plans

My good intentions were ruined last night. The combination of a Buy One Get One Free Pizza Express Voucher (from the Sunday Times) and my boyfriend working too late to cook anything decent, scuppered my healthy eating and reduced spending plans. So we did go to Pizza Express and the bill was £25.60. However we paid for it out of the food money because we had some spare so I’m not actually taking it off my £167 budget. (And for the record, I didn’t have a starter or a pudding so it could have been worse on the calorie front)

Budget remaining: £167

10th Apr 08

Still got my whole £167 left, I’ve not spent any money or eaten any snacks other than fruit all week, I’m therefore feeling rather smug.
